The Nalandabodhi Mitras

In 2005, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche appointed a group of his long-time students to be the senior Western teachers of Nalandabodhi. He recognized them as kalyanamitras or "spiritual friends" and, based on this term, gave each of them the title "Mitra."

The Mitras are the primary stewards of Ponlop Rinpoche's vision for the Nalandabodhi sangha for the paths of study, practice, and mindful activity. They teach the view, meditation, and conduct of Nalandabodhi's form of contemporary Buddhism, which supports practitioners in combining traditional and 21st-century approaches.

In particular, the Mitras teach, create content and guide the production of source materials for the three paths, train study and practice instructors, perform certain Buddhist ceremonies and transmissions, and provide spiritual guidance.
